A private household in SE Calgary, Alberta is seeking a compassionate and dependable Caregiver / Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide in-home support through Alberta Health Services’ Self-Managed Care (SMC) program. This part-time role involves one-on-one personal care and physical assistance for an individual living with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type II. The ideal candidate is patient, respectful, and comfortable working in a private home setting while maintaining professionalism and clear communication.

This role supports an individual receiving care through Alberta’s Self-Managed Care program in a private home environment. The household values mutual respect, open communication, and consistency in care. As this is the first time hiring a private caregiver, the caregiver will receive clear guidance, expectations, and support to ensure a positive and collaborative working relationship.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with personal care, including toileting, hygiene, dressing, and grooming
- Support mobility and transfers, primarily using a ceiling lift
- Perform frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling as required for care tasks
- Assist with meal preparation and light household duties related to caregiving
- Offer companionship and a supportive presence
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable home environment
- Follow an established care plan while maintaining professional boundaries
- Communicate clearly and respectfully regarding care needs and daily routines
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Caregiver or Personal Support Worker (PSW)
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Fluent in English
- Canadian citizen or legally eligible to work in Canada
- Self-employed status with the ability to invoice hours in accordance with the SMC program
- Physically capable of providing hands-on care, including transfers
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the full weekly schedule (37 hours/week)
- Access to reliable transportation to and from the workplace
