Key Responsibilities

As a Carpenter, your duties will include:

  • Preparing estimates of labour and material costs
  • Reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements
  • Preparing layouts in accordance with building codes using measuring tools
  • Measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining materials (wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials)
  • Preparing tenders and quotations
  • Building foundations, installing floor beams, laying subflooring, and erecting walls and roof systems
  • Installing windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware
  • Scheduling and coordinating work at construction sites
  • Surveying building locations and levels
  • Supervising and instructing apprentices and other workers (5–10 people)
  • Estimating project costs and materials
  • Performing maintenance, repair, and renovation work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings

Experience & Specialization

Education

  • Other trades certificate or diploma
