Key Responsibilities
As a Carpenter, your duties will include:
- Preparing estimates of labour and material costs
- Reading blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine work requirements
- Preparing layouts in accordance with building codes using measuring tools
- Measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining materials (wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials)
- Preparing tenders and quotations
- Building foundations, installing floor beams, laying subflooring, and erecting walls and roof systems
- Installing windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware
- Scheduling and coordinating work at construction sites
- Surveying building locations and levels
- Supervising and instructing apprentices and other workers (5–10 people)
- Estimating project costs and materials
- Performing maintenance, repair, and renovation work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings
