Responsibilities
As a Fabricator/Welder, you will be responsible for:
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Performing MIG, TIG, Stick, and pipe welding in accordance with ASME IX standards
- Fabricating and assembling metal structures and components accurately
- Using workshop machinery such as grinders, brake presses, and other fabrication tools
- Laying out, positioning, and fitting parts before welding
- Completing Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), including all inspections and record keeping
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work environment
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and working both independently and within a team
- Ensuring all work meets quality, safety, and project deadlines
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Trade qualification in fitting and welding
- Proven ability to weld to ASME IX standards
- Current and valid NZ Class 1 driver’s licence
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical checks
- Workshop experience, preferably in heavy industry or similar environments
Skills
We’re looking for a candidate who demonstrates:
- High proficiency in welding processes: Electrode (Stick), TIG, MIG, and preferably aluminium TIG/MIG
- Strong attention to detail and high standards of workmanship
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
- Physical fitness and stamina suitable for industrial environments
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work unsupervised or as part of a collaborative team
- Commitment to health and safety practices
