ABOUT THE ROLE

As an On Farm Assist with Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), you’ll play a key role in supporting New Zealand’s dairy farmers through a wide range of on-farm activities. You’ll be part of a passionate team delivering essential herd testing, DNA sampling, animal weighing, and farm support services across Tokoroa, Rotorua, Mangakino, Te Poi, and Tirau.

This is a full-time, permanent, on-site position offering excellent career growth opportunities, ongoing training, and the chance to make a real difference in the agricultural sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the On Farm Assist Team, your duties will include:

  • Providing on-farm support to dairy farmers across the region
  • Assisting with herd testing and DNA sampling during milking
  • Conducting herd audits, animal weighing, and maintaining accurate records
  • Operating and maintaining farm equipment safely and efficiently
  • Ensuring high standards of animal welfare and biosecurity compliance
  • Supporting field teams and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Upholding LIC’s commitment to safety, teamwork, and service excellence

EQUIPMENT & SPECIALIZATION

You may work with or around the following:

REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the On Farm Assist role, you’ll need:

Education:

  • Secondary school completion or relevant agricultural experience

Experience:

  • Prior farm, animal handling, or customer service experience (preferred but not essential)

Skills & Qualities:

  • Positive “can-do” attitude and willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Physically fit and capable of outdoor, hands-on work
  • Self-motivated and professional
  • Full, current driver’s licence (essential)
  • Based in or near South Waikato
