Responsibilities
- Interpret and study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
- Select, clean, and prepare metal stock and materials for fabrication
- Cut and shape metal sections using hand tools, cutting torches, and metal-cutting machinery
- Bend, form, and shape steel components using manual and powered tools, including heating and hammering techniques
- Align and assemble metal parts using clamps, jigs, and measuring instruments
- Weld and join components using various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and arc welding
- Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy, penetration, and strength of welds
- Grind, file, and polish finished products to meet precise specifications
- Erect and install steel structures on-site, working safely at heights when required
- Adhere to all health and safety standards and project timelines
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in welding and metal fabrication
- Strong understanding of steel structures and fabrication techniques
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings
- Skilled in a variety of welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Physically fit and comfortable working in workshop and site environments
- Willingness to travel for on-site work outside Hawke’s Bay when required
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work both independently and in a team
- Availability for weekend work as needed
