RESPONSIBILITIES

Your daily duties as a long-haul truck driver may include:

  • Load and unload goods
  • Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
  • Inspect tires, lights, brakes, refrigeration units, and other vehicle equipment
  • Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections
  • Perform preventive maintenance and brake adjustments
  • Carry out emergency roadside repairs when necessary
  • Receive and relay information to central dispatch
  • Record cargo information, fuel consumption, distance travelled, and hours of service
  • Complete trip reports, inspection reports, and driver logbooks
  • Secure cargo by tarping and following all safety procedures
  • Transport and handle dangerous goods according to regulations
  • Pay and receive payments for transported goods when required

To qualify for this job, you need the following:

Languages

  • English

Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

  • 1 year to less than 2 years

Documentation Knowledge

  • Accident or incident reports
  • Bill of lading
  • Driver logbook
  • Pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspection reports
  • Maintenance and repair reports
  • Trip reports

Required Certificates & Licenses

  • Air Brake (Z) Endorsement
  • Class 1 (Class A) Driver’s License

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work conditions include the following:

  • On-site role (no remote work)
  • Long-haul transportation routes
  • Physically demanding work
  • Large workload
  • Handling heavy loads
  • Attention to detail required
  • Lifting and handling weights up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Successful candidates should have:

  • Valid Class 1 (Class A) Driver’s License
  • Air Brake (Z) Endorsement
  • Ability to complete transportation documentation accurately
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle inspections and maintenance
  • Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance
